Goa: New archives department office in Quepem

Residents of Quepem, Dharbandora and Sanguem talukas will now be able to access old documents closer to their home instead of travelling to the state capital. The first office of archives and archaeology department, outside Panaji, has been set up in Quepem town.

QUEPEM: Residents of Quepem, Dharbandora and Sanguem talukas will now be able to access old documents closer to their home instead of travelling to the state capital.
The first office of archives and archaeology department, outside Panaji, has been set up in Quepem town.
All the old documents, which were stored in the Panaji office, have been shifted to the office at Sonarbhatt, Quepem, which was inaugurated by chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday.

The entire ground plus first floor of the newly constructed building of the Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) has been allotted to the archives and archaeology department on rent.
Deputy chief minister and Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar said all the old documents from 1510 will be available at the Quepem office.
All the documents preserved since the 17th century, including certificates such as death, birth, marriage, baptism, land and court, inventory records and sale deeds, will be available in the new office.
Sawant also inaugurated the newly laid Selaulim water pipeline built under JICA fund at a cost of Rs 34 crore.
